Arrest Arpaio, Not the People
This past Friday, over a hundred passionate protesters from Occupy Phoenix and PUENTE gathered to protest the actions of Sheriff Joe Arpaio and to call for his indictment. ”We want him behind bars,” said Carlos Garcia to AZ Central. “The Department of Justice said Arpaio is responsible for the worst case of racial profiling they have ever seen… You can’t make a statement like that and not do anything.”
Occupy Phoenix also performed a banner-drop from atop the Jefferson St. City Parking structure, in full view of the surrounding business area of downtown Phoenix. The banner was inspiring and protesters cheered, though police removed the banner within a few minutes. No word on whether those who helped plan the banner drop were arrested or cited.
